THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE ('46) was one of the main films that established Lana Turner as a serious dramatic actress and a femme fatale. James M. Cain, who wrote the book which the film was based on, was so impressed with her performance he presented her a leather-bound copy of the novel where he inscribed, "For my dear Lana, thank you for giving a performance that was even finer than I expected."
