Our North-East Reserves team captured this wonderful footage of a great white egret wading through a scrape at our Dingle Marshes nature reserve! These beautiful birds are a member of the heron family and look very similar to a little egret, however much larger. Once rare in the UK, sightings of great white egret (Ardea alba) have become more common over the last few decades, particularly in wetland nature reserves in East Anglia and South-East England. 🎥 footage captured on a trail camera set-

These gorgeous white birds live across North America wetlands and become even more stunning during breeding season with long plumes and a bright green face patch. Egrets were nearly hunted to extinction in the late nineteenth century when their plumes were used to adorn ladies' hats.
