As school breaks up for summer holidays, we celebrate a landmark birthday of a British institution. Ryde Pier opened on 26th July 1814. This weekend marks the pier’s 200th anniversary! It is Britain’s oldest seaside pier and although it may have changed over the years it paved the way for other seaside towns. A stroll on the pier has become as much a part of the holiday tradition as fish and chips, stick of rock and a 99. This week for Throwback Thursday we go back 50-years to scenes from Ryde.
