Eastern Loggerhead Shrike Spotted In The Wild

The loggerhead shrike is a small avian predator that inhabits grasslands and other open habitats. Shrikes prey on a variety of animals including insects, reptiles, small mammals and birds. Prey is often stored for later. The birds impale prey on thorns, barbed wire, or hooked between forked branches. We are excited to announce that our Eastern Loggerhead Shrike Canadian Conservation Breeding Program has welcomed hatchings 🐣 A total of 16 adult shrikes formed five breeding pairs that have all produced young. Cohen (dad) and Buffy (mom) had seven chicks hatch on May 10, 2021, followed closely by Kermit (dad) and Bugsy (mom) with four chicks hatched on May 11, 2021.
