President Donald Trump has activated 4,000 National Guardsmen and 700 Marines to secure the area over the protests of Democrats, including Bass and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), who have characterized the federalization of the situation as authoritarian and inflammatory.
The National Guard has at times detained protesters in its deployment to Los Angeles, an official said Wednesday, as demonstrations against Immigration and Customs enforcement raids spread to other major cities.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus confirmed the deployment, SAPD said. Protests against immigrant arrests are planned for Wednesday and Saturday.
