Tropical Storm Erin could become strong Category 3 storm. Florida impacts, where it's going
The National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Erin is expected to begin strengthening today, Aug. 13 and become a hurricane Friday, Aug. 15, and a strong Category 3 hurricane by Sunday, Aug. 17 as it moves out of an area with dry area and "marginal" sea surface temperatures.
While it’s looking very likely that Hurricane Erin will avoid landfall in Florida, the Sunshine State will likely still feel some effects — mainly in rougher coastal waters.
It continues to push toward the northern Leeward Islands, where tropical storm watches are now in effect as of the 8 p.m.
