The Chicago Bulls announced today that Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey will be officially retired, making him the fifth Bulls player to receive this franchise honor. The Rose jersey retirement ceremony will be held during the next NBA season (2025-26), and details will be announced at a later date.

It was always leaning in this direction, but the Bulls finally made it official on Saturday, announcing that Rose will be the fifth Bulls player with his jersey number hanging in the rafters.

The two-minute tribute will debut during a halftime ceremony honoring Rose at Saturday’s Bulls game against the New York Knicks. It will be the apex of an evening reserved for the Chicago native and 2011 NBA MVP who announced his retirement in September. The Bulls have dubbed the matchup “Derrick Rose Night.”

Rose’s No. 1 will be the fifth Bulls player jersey to be retired, joining Jerry Sloan (No. 4), Bob Love (No. 10), Michael Jordan (No. 23) and Scottie Pippen (No. 33). The NBA retired Bill Russell’s jersey (No. 6) across the league after he passed away in 2022.

Bulls president and CEO Michael Reinsdorf informed the Chicago product and former MVP in person on Saturday that his No. 1 will be sent to the rafters sometime during the 2025-26 season.
