By Rishika Sadam HYDERABAD, Jan 30 (Reuters) - There is a low risk of the deadly Nipah virus spreading from India, the World Health Organization said on Friday, adding that it did not recommend travel or trade curbs after two infections reported by the South Asian nation.

Singapore is closely monitoring developments in West Bengal, where the latest outbreak marks India's seventh Nipah virus episode since 2001.

Countries across Asia are on high alert after cases of the deadly Nipah virus were detected in India. Though Indian officials said they have contained the outbreak, screenings at airports in Asia increased at major airports, with health declarations, temperature checks and visual monitoring of passengers.

Singapore has unveiled six preliminary measures to anticipate the potential spread of the Nipah virus following an outbreak in West Bengal, India.

The UK Health Security Agency said Nipah has been designated 'a high priority pathogen' because of its high fatality rate and the fact that there are currently no approved vaccines or treatments

An outbreak of the deadly Nipah virus in eastern India has triggered anxiety in China as the Lunar New Year travel rush approaches. Indian authorities last week confirmed at least five Nipah cases in West Bengal and quarantined nearly 100 people at home.
