Jalen Brunson scored 34 points, Cam Payne had 11 of his 14 in the fourth quarter and the New York Knicks stunned the Detroit Pistons with a 21-0 run in the final period to rally for a 123-112 victory on Saturday night in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

Brunson, a superstar, is a known playoff riser, even tracing back to his days as a Dallas Maverick. That was on full display as he led the Knicks to the big win on Saturday. New York, with this version of Brunson, should be able to handle the Pistons in the first round.

Until it did, the Pistons were on the verge of a smashing return to the postseason, before the kind of collapse their young core had avoided so well. Detroit blew an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter on opening night against Indiana, then hadn't lost when leading by eight or more in the final period since.
