MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) -Minnesota Police and the FBI kept up a massive manhunt on Saturday evening for a gunman posing as a police officer who killed a senior Democratic state assemblywoman and her husband in what Governor Tim Walz called a "politically motivated assassination."
Before Representative Melissa Hortman’s death, the state’s House was evenly divided. The governor has until next February to fill her seat before the next legislative session.
Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, and state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded in politically motivated shootings early Saturday, Gov. Tim Walz said. Authorities have also identified a suspect who is still at large.
Gov. JB Pritzker said while he wasn’t on Minnesota shooter’s “hit list,” there were names of “Illinois folks” found among the man’s possessions.
