According to Katie Woo of The Athletic, the Dodgers' interest in a Freddy Peralta trade stems from pitching injuries they've absored. Peralta is the second notable starting pitcher the Dodgers have been connected to this offseason, as they also were mentioned as a suitor in a potential Tarik Skubal trade.

The Cubs parted with Isaac Paredes, Hayden Wesneski and heralded prospect Cam Smith in order to land Tucker, who was entering the final season of team control. It was viewed as a steep price considering questions as to whether or not the Cubs would make an effort to either sign Tucker to a contract extension or keep him in free agency.

The Dodgers are in the midst of a dynasty, winning three of the last six World Series. Betts has been a key player for the Dodgers, but he is nearing the end of his career. He will turn 34 this year and is under contract through 2032. Betts announced that he plans to retire when his current deal expires.
