Gabrielle could still become a hurricane by early next week, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm is not an immediate threat to land, but it is expected to strengthen as it moves northwest.

"This tropical depression is expected to develop into the next named tropical storm in the Atlantic," said AccuWeather lede hurricane expert Alex DaSilva.
