Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval has made the trip to Park City for the Sundance Film Festival — because Cincinnati has high hopes of stealing it away.

Sundance Film Festival begins Thursday in Park City, Utah. There are about 90 features premiering across the 11 days, including one surrounding the Alabama prison system, with screenings starting early in the morning through midnight.

EXCLUSIVE: No final decision has been made on if the Sundance Film Festival will stay in Utah or move to either Boulder or Cincinnati in 2027, but for attendees of the 2025 gathering a big change on Park City's Main Street has received a full thumbs-up so far.

However, one independent sales exec and Sundance regular told us: “The mood is very bad. L.A. is like a ghost town. There is sure to be a knock on impact on Sundance. Those whose houses were in the line of the fires aren’t going to Park City, I’m sure. Everything is on hold in terms of financing. There is paralysis.”

The City of Cincinnati put $2.5 million upfront to secure a deal, with at least $2.5 million more promised if the Queen City is selected as the host. The council estimated that Sundance coming to Cincinnati would be an investment for the future that would potentially bring in at least $120 million per year for a decade.
