The New Orleans Saints are the final team in the NFL with a head coaching vacancy, and they appear to be locking in on their top candidate. After former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy backed out of the running for the gig on Tuesday night,

Kellen Moore missed out on landing the Cowboys job but could be the front-runner for the New Orleans Saints after the Eagles dismantled the Commanders on Sunday afternoon, and Mike McCarthy decided to focus on 2026.

Mike McCarthy is no longer planning to coach this year, sources told ESPN, while Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has emerged as a lead candidate for the Saints job, the last remaining head coach vacancy in the NFL.

The drop-outs left Moore and Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver as the Saints' top candidates, and Moore has more coordinator experience despite being so young. He's spent six seasons as an offensive coordinator between three teams, regularly garnering head coaching interest over the years.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers headman removed himself from the New Orleans Saints head coaching race last night. McCarthy’s intentions will now be on the 2026 head coaching cycle.
