Tropical Storm Erin is tracking west over the open Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday and forecasters expect it to become the first hurricane of the Atlantic season this week.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Tropical Storm Erin continues to show signs of organization, maintaining strong thunderstorms around its center as it pushes westward across the Atlantic. While satellite images show little change in overall strength since the last update, the storm still packs winds near 50 mph and could soon start strengthening.
