National Hurricane Center forecasters are tracking three tropical waves on Sept. 1, including one in the eastern Atlantic off Africa with a 50% chance of development. In Florida, showers and localized thunderstorms are forecast for Labor Day, with rip current risks along the coastline.

Located roughly midway between the Windward Islands and the west coast of Africa as of 7 a.m., the system is expected to become a tropical depression or storm within the next day or two. As of 7 a.m., it had a 90% chance of forming in the next 48 hours, according to the NHC.
