A Western North Carolina police department released photos Thursday of "assailants" officers say are using "Orbeez-style" guns to target downtown pedestrians.

Police said some juveniles who disrupted Gloucester Township Day had an Orbeez gun, and that another incident involving the toy weapon happened Thursday.

But the retailer still sold toy guns that looked real until the 1990s, when there were two separate incidents of police shooting children who were playing with toy weapons.
