Patients sent fewer online messages to their Mayo Clinic providers after the health system implemented an e-visit billing policy in 2023, according to a new study by Mayo Clinic researchers.

Communicating with health care providers through online patient portal messages has become commonplace; in 2022, Mayo Clinic providers received more than 6.4 million messages from patients.

Ayble Health, a digital health platform for patients with chronic gastrointestinal conditions, has announced a new collaboration with the Mayo Clinic.

The health system installed e-visit billing systemwide in August 2023 and after six months the patient-initiated medical advice messages dropped 8% year over year.
