HUMBOLDT COUNTY, CA - A preliminary 2.2 magnitude quake was detected near Ferndale Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S.

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck off the southern coast of Mexico, centered about 50 miles south-southwest of La Esperanza.

The British Geological Survey said the quake was felt across Lancashire and the southern Lake District.
