A Latvian mountaineering group says three climbers on Alaska’s Mt. McKinley who fell near a treacherous pass on North America’s tallest peak have died.
By Steve Gorman May 29 (Reuters) - Three Latvian climbers fell to their deaths on Mount McKinley in Alaska's Denali National Park and Preserve, while a fourth team member survived and was rescued, a climbing organization from their home country said on Friday.
Denali National Park and Preserve mountaineering rangers also responded to help evacuate two climbers late Wednesday night.
Four climbers are missing after a fall near Denali Pass on Alaska's Mount McKinley as rescuers search the mountain.
A search and rescue mission is underway after four people fell while climbing Mount McKinley at 18,200 feet, according to the National Park Service. Mount McKinley -- located in Alaska's Denali National Park and Reserve -- is the tallest peak in North America,
Tour buses do not count against the current seasonal limit, but they would count against the new daily limit, reducing the practical effect of the change.
