At least 15 people were killed in a terror attack on Sunday targeting the Jewish community celebrating the first night of Hannukah at Sydney’s famed Bondi Beach.

Hundreds had gathered for an event at Bondi Beach called Chanukah by the Sea, which was celebrating the start of the Hanukkah Jewish festival.

Australian leaders promised Monday to immediately overhaul already-tough gun control laws after a mass shooting targeted a Hanukkah celebration on Sydney's Bondi Beach. At least 15 people died in the attack,

Police said around 1,000 people had attended the Jewish celebration, which was held in a small park off the beach.

The two men who killed 15 people on Sunday were driven by “Islamic State ideology,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told Australia’s public broadcaster.
