Three firefighters and 12 train passengers were hospitalized after a Brightline train crashed with a fire truck in crowded downtown Delray Beach late Saturday morning.

Around 10:45 a.m., a Brightline train and a Delray Beach Fire Rescue ladder truck collided near East Atlantic Avenue and Railroad Avenue, according to city spokeswoman Gina Carter. Debris from the crash scattered across the tracks and nearby roadways.

A dramatic collision between a fire truck and a Brightline high-speed passenger train in Florida on Saturday morning left three firefighters and twelve train passengers injured. The crash occurred at 10:45 AM at a rail crossing in the heart of Delray Beach.

They are on leave “pending the results of an internal administrative investigation to determine if City and Fire Rescue policies and procedures were followed,” the fire chief said.

The crossing gates were lowered and the fire truck was straddling the tracks when the high-speed train approached, a video of the collision shows.
