Wednesday's UEFA Champions League action was all about tight margins, with four teams carrying a one goal advantage into next week's second leg of the knockout phase playoffs after tightly contested matches.

Celtic are playing in their first Champions League knockout tie in 12 years, with their last coming in a 3-0 defeat to Juventus in February 2013. The Scottish champions benefited from the changes to the Champions League format and finished the league phase in 21st position – with ten of their 12 points coming at Celtic Park.

It feels like a lost opportunity for Bayern Munich. On Wednesday, the Rekordmeister beat Scottish giants Celtic 2-1 thanks to goals by Michael Olise (45’) and Harry Kane (49’). Although it is a win ahead of the return leg, the 79th-minute strike by Daizen Maeda means Bayern still has work to do at the Allianz Arena next week.
