Forrest Whitley never established himself as reliable part of the Houston Astros ' pitching staff. Houston's former top prospect will now look to become a Major League mainstay with a different franchise after a trade early Friday afternoon.

The Rays on Friday acquired right-hander Forrest Whitley from the Astros for cash considerations. Whitley, a former first-round Draft pick in 2016, was designated for assignment by Houston on June 8.

The Astros had high hopes for Forrest Whitley, who once was the top pitching prospect in baseball, but his time with the organization is now officially over.
