The Madras High Court today said that the alleged sexual assault case at Anna University is "being politicised".

Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Anbumani Ramadoss on Thursday (January 2, 2024) condemned the arrest of Pasumai Thaayagam president Sowmiya Anbumani and the cadre of the party’s women wing for attempting to stage a protest demanding justice for the survivor in the Anna University sexual assault case and seeking women safety in Tamil Nadu.

Sowmiya Anbumani, wife of PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss and other party members were detained shortly after the agitation started at Valluvar Kottam.

As part of the ongoing investigation into the sexual assault case involving a 19-year-old student at Anna University in Chennai, a member of the fact-finding team has proposed a series of recommendations to enhance safety measures and improve the handling of sexual assault cases.
