The New York Yankees made perhaps the most dramatic roster move of their season on Wednesday when they designated veteran infielder DJ LeMahieu for assignment.

The Yankees designated the three-time All-Star for assignment on Wednesday, but still owe him a hefty amount through 2026.

Aaron Boone announced that LeMahieu is no longer viewed as an everyday player. The veteran was not pleased about the change.

A day after moving him to the bench, the Yankees elected to designate their longtime infielder for assignment.

One day after Aaron Boone declared DJ LeMahieu “a bat off the bench” and physically challenged by the third base position, the Yankees designated the two-time batting champ for assignment. The team announced the decision on Wednesday. The Yankees still owe LeMahieu, 36, about $22 million.

The New York Yankees moved Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base and, as a result, DJ LeMahieu to the bench. He is not pleased with the move.
